Art and Design: Introductory Studies

We are the gateway to most of the courses in the Visual Arts at NMMU. Students who want to study towards a qualification in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Multimedia or Textiles are required to complete the first year of their studies in the Department of Undergraduate Studies Art & Design Introductory Course before entering their major direction at second year level.

The aim of the course is to introduce entry-level students to a broad range of technical and conceptual skills including drawing and visualization techniques and a range of 3-Dimensional and 2-Dimensional skills, including design, painting, photography, sculpture and ceramics. In addition, you will be introduced to Visual Literacy, Theory of Art and Communication.
